Professional Development Activities
Professional Development is a great way to take advantage of Title III funds. To apply for funds to attend an instructional
technology focused training or conference check out the criteria for professional development and the Request for
Professional Development Funds found in the Resources section of the site.
Academic Systems Training
NRCC hosted a day of training for VCCS faculty in November in the Interactive Math product offered by Academic Systems. Interactive Math is a
suite of products designed to supplement Blackboard-hosted courses in developmental math. NRCC's Pablo Chalmeta will be piloting this product
for the VCCS in Spring. Among the many participants from across the VCCS were NRCC's: Heidi Guthrie, Adam Bryant, Debra Gupton, Rachel Scott
and Pablo Chalmeta.
Society for Applied Learning Technologies
Heidi Guthrie and Adam Bryant attended the Education and Technology 2002 Conference in Arlington, VA, where they participated in
one or more of the following conference tracks: Knowledge Management and Instructional Systems Development, Technical Skills Training and
Education & E-Learning. Sessions attended include: Communication in Online Learning Environments: Framing Asynchronous Online
Discussions, Interactive Web-Based IT Skills Training, Faculty Development With a "Flash", Web-Based Performance Support for Evaluation,
Revising Web-Based Training for Accessibility, and Readability: Addressing Individuals' Visual Needs for Delivering Content.
In addition to participating in the Education and Technology 2002 Conference, Heidi and Adam became members of the Society for Applied
Learning Technologies (SALT).
Conference With Peers
Ray Wurzburger travelled to Albuquerque, New Mexico courtesy of Title III this summer. He attended the "Teachers
of Accounting at Two-Year Colleges" conference in May. View Ray's report (pdf file).
Researching New Technologies
Adam Bryant used some Title III funds to travel to Charlotte for the launch of a new software development tool. ".NET" is
Microsoft's newest platform and the latest version of their popular Visual Studio development tool suite.
